Cyanotype

Cyanotype prints are created by placing objects or a photo negative on light-sensitive paper or fabric. After exposure to UV light (either the sun or a UV lamp), the surface is washed and the light-sensitive chemicals wash out of the unexposed area, leaving a cyan blue print (once it’s fully oxidized). I almost exclusively use real, physical objects that I find in nature to create my cyanotypes. I like the treasure hunt that starts the process and the spontaneous effects that can result from moving the objects around and layering them throughout the exposure to get different shades of blue and an abstract kind of depth.
